Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend! For this month’s contest, I would love to hear what makes your mother so special to you. What is your mother’s favorite vegetable recipe? Share some valuable cooking lessons she has taught you over the years. Feel free to share anything else about your mother.

Please post your answers on the discussion forum topic: Mother’s Day 2014 that I have created. The winners will be selected randomly from all the forum post entries. Below is my checklist:

    My mother was a great woman and a even better cook. I strive everyday to be as good a cook as her. My favorite veggie dish she use to make asparagus salad.
    Asparagus Salad
    Asparagus, olives, mint, bell pepper, and onion – a nice mix for a summer salad.

    Hello mam,

    Thanku so much for giving me such a chance to share some facts about the most amazing relationship i.e; mother and child.
    Somes lines i would like to say about all the mother’s :
    “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”

    My mother is my life she is the one who has always stood by me in all phases of my life. Her thoughts about me never change with circumstances. Everybody in my family says one thing to my mother that she should not give me so much freedom as i am a girl. She just has one answer to this question is that she trusts me more than herself. I just love her so much. She encourages me so much.

    Talking about the food, my mom she is an amazing cook i always thought that she should make it her profession but she was more into designing.
    Being her daughter i have some of her qualities, I just love cooking and one day i’ll definitely make it my profession. My mother’s favourite dish is “Besan ki sabzi” its a sindhi cuisine.

    For making Besan ki sabzi the Ingredients are as follows:

    200 gms of gram flour.
    1 tablespoon of anar dana.
    2 green chillies
    1 tablespoon of coriander leaves
    4 onions finely chopped
    2 tomatoes finely chopped
    1 potato chopped in round shape
    salt
    turmeric powder
    red chilli powder
    coriander powder
    oil for frying

    Mix gram flour, anar dana, green chillies, salt, red chilli powder, coriander leaves, 2 tablespoon of oil and water and make a bit hard dough out of it. Let the dough rest for about 15 mins. Make thin patties out of that dough and deep fry them till they are Golden brown.
    Take a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in it put the onions till they are light brown or pinkish in colour, then add the tomatoes and cook for about 10 mins. Then add all the
    dry spices and salt to it then add potatoes and cook till the potatoes are cooked. Then add the patties and let it simmer for 5 mins and garnish with coriander and serve hot.

    Thanku so much mam for letting me share such amazing facts about the most important person in my life. May god give all the happiness to all the mother’s in this world, as it is rightly said that god can’t be everywhere that’s why he made mother.

    My mother was wonderful.She is in heaven now.She was a very caring,loving person who was generous to a fault. She LOVED to cook and her fried zuccini was awesome,not to mention her carrot cake too…. 🙂

    Happy mother’s day to u and Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers in the world.. and especially my beautiful mom…And her name is Vijaya…Who taught me to everything from the day i stepped into this world.. you know everything of me good and bad … you have seen me crying , cribbing, bugging, teasing, laughing, and all sorts of mood swings but still u know how to handle me with love… Nothing compares to mothers lap, mothers kiss and hug… Thank you for bringing me to this world and giving me this life… and making me strong and face all the troubles out here in this world.. With out u and ur support nothing is possible for me mom… Love is nothing but U amma.. I love you very much..Happy Mothers Day amma………..and my mom favorite food is brinjal,raw mango mixed curry with plain rice…its a famous south indian recipe..And my favoriye recipe too…she makes awesome food…i like her receipes very much……she taught me everything that i know today about cooking….Thanks for everything amma…

I mostly visit your website and the contests that take place periodically…I must confess that I love the way you present your cooking…Your are an inspiration and a great help to all people like me who are wanting and trying to get better and better in cooking.

    My Mother- It is going to be the first Mother’s day WITHOUT her!! She passed away in last december of 2013 fighting cancer. Putting ‘was’ for her is still not acceptable to me and brings tears in my eyes. life without her looks lost and incomplete…I love you ma! I hope you can hear me!
    Words cannot describe my love for her.Her favorite recipe used to be Palak-Paneer and Makkey ki rotI. Would love to make it on this mother’s day..

    Happy Mother’s day to you too. oh where do i start, being a working mom,my mom was the best, she had odd duti hours but we never had cold food or day old food in our plates, she make sure if she has morning duty, she wakes up at 5 , make lunch for us and left the house at 6.30 , if night duty then same, she makes amazing vegetable biryani, all kind of snacks, puris, mathia, suvari, kalkal, corn chevda, her famous dalvads. funny story can’t stop to share it with you all, they visited us in 2011, went to visit our friends ,t hat time she made dalvadas there and everyone loved it, when we went this year to visit same friend, they told us that send your mom again here we wanted to have her dalvads, i said i can make same as hers but they wanted to hers only. she makes awesome all subjis, cluster beans with yogurt, stuff bhindi, stuffed karelas, spicy dal. you name it she made everything awesome. there is no such thing as bad cooking for her. even her vaghareli khichdi is awesome with spicy garlicky red chili chutney.

    Happy mother ‘ s day to you and very special Mother’s Day to my mother.She is everything to me.made me such a nice person and she has married me to a very nice and loving husband.My mother’s favourite dish is which she likes to eat always is Masala dosai her all time favourite dish.she has taught me many things that includes many recipes also.Love u a lot amma.And i miss you staying far away from India.
